1. Information We Collect

We collect information you provide directly to us when you create an account, use our study tools, or contact us for support. This includes:

  • Account information such as your name and email address
  • Study content including notes, flashcards, quiz results, and generated materials
  • Usage data such as features accessed and time spent studying
  • Device and browser information for technical support

When you use StudyMaster's AI-powered features (such as Scholar, AI Notes, Writing Feedback, and Exam Prep), the content you submit is processed by our AI provider to generate your study materials and tutoring responses. We retain this content only as needed to provide the service — for example, your saved notes and chat history remain accessible to you in your account until you delete them.

  • Saved notes, flashcards, quizzes, and summaries you generate — stored so you can revisit them later
  • Scholar chat history — saved so you can resume past tutoring conversations from your History tab
  • Quiz and practice answers — used to calculate your scores and track progress within a course

If your account is part of a school district, your teacher and school administrator may be able to view your study activity (such as notes generated and quiz scores) for the purposes of supporting your learning. You can delete your saved notes and chat history at any time. Activity data used solely for analytics is aggregated and does not include the full text of your prompts or submissions.

2. How We Use Your Information

We use the information we collect to:

  • Provide, maintain, and improve our study platform
  • Personalize your learning experience with AI-powered recommendations
  • Send you study reminders and progress updates
  • Respond to your comments and questions
  • Monitor and analyze usage patterns to enhance features

3. Information Sharing

We do not sell, trade, or rent your personal information to third parties. We may share your information only in the following circumstances:

  • With your consent or at your direction
  • To comply with legal obligations or respond to lawful requests
  • To protect the rights and safety of our users and platform
  • With service providers who assist in operating our platform under strict confidentiality

4. Data Security

We take the security of your personal information seriously. We implement industry-standard security measures including encryption in transit and at rest, regular security audits, and access controls to protect your data from unauthorized access, alteration, or disclosure.

5. Data Retention

We retain your personal information for as long as your account is active or as needed to provide services. You may request deletion of your account and associated data at any time by contacting us. Some information may be retained for legal compliance purposes.

6. Children's Privacy

Our platform is designed for students and may be used by individuals under the age of 13 with parental consent. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13 without verifiable parental consent. If you believe we have collected such information, please contact us immediately.

7. Your Rights

You have the right to:

  • Access and review the personal information we hold about you
  • Request correction of inaccurate data
  • Request deletion of your account and data
  • Opt out of non-essential communications
  • Data portability where technically feasible

8. Google Calendar Integration

StudyMaster integrates with Google Calendar to sync your schedule. When you connect your Google Calendar account, we may access and use:

  • Your upcoming Google Calendar events (read-only) — displayed in your StudyMaster schedule as reference events labeled as coming from Google Calendar
  • The ability to create new calendar events on your behalf — when you choose to push a StudyMaster assignment, study session, or other item to your Google Calendar

Google Calendar events imported into your schedule are clearly identified as external events and are never modified or deleted by StudyMaster. We do not share your Google Calendar data with third parties. You can disconnect Google Calendar at any time through your Google Account settings. Our use of Google Calendar data complies with Google's API Services User Data Policy.

9. Study Groups Feature

StudyMaster includes a Study Groups feature that allows users to form study parties, share notes and lessons, and ask questions with other members. Please be aware of the following:

  • When you join or create a group, your email address is stored as part of the group's member list and may be visible to other group members
  • Notes, lessons, and messages you share within a group are visible to all current and future members of that group
  • Your display name (full name or email) appears alongside posts and shared content within a group
  • Shared notes and lessons remain accessible to group members even if you later leave the group
  • Do not share sensitive personal information, passwords, or private data in group posts or shared content
  • Group content is governed by our Terms of Service — we reserve the right to remove content that violates community guidelines

10. Cookies

We use cookies and similar technologies to keep you logged in, remember your preferences, and understand how you use our platform. You can control cookie settings through your browser, though disabling cookies may affect platform functionality.

11. Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will notify you of significant changes by posting the new policy on this page and updating the "Last updated" date. Continued use of the platform after changes constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.

12. Camera & Microphone Use in Scholar Video Mode

StudyMaster's Scholar feature includes an optional Video Mode that uses your device camera and microphone to provide an interactive tutoring experience. By enabling Video Mode, you acknowledge and agree to the following:

  • Camera access — The app captures periodic still frames (not continuous video) during active Video Mode sessions and sends them to our AI for focus analysis. These frames are processed transiently and are never permanently stored, saved, or shared.
  • Microphone access — When you press "Start Talking," your voice is captured via your device's microphone using the browser's built-in Web Speech API and transcribed to text locally or via the browser. The transcribed text is then sent to Scholar for a tutoring response. No raw audio is stored or transmitted to our servers.
  • Camera and microphone access are entirely optional and only activated when you explicitly start a Video Mode session.
  • You can revoke camera and microphone access at any time through your browser or device settings.
  • No video recordings are made at any time. Only individual snapshots are used for focus detection.
  • This feature is intended for users aged 13 and older. Younger users should only use this feature with parental consent and supervision.

Scholar's AI voice responses are generated using the browser's built-in Web Speech Synthesis API and do not involve any external audio processing services.
